Check out these quick tips and tricks for a cleaner home

keeping a clean home

1) Hang Up Clean Clothes and Put Dirty Clothes Away

Take a leasurely stroll around your house and take note of any clothes or shoes that are clearly out of place. Did you come home from the gym and throw your sweaty clothes on the floor? Maybe your jacket wasn't hung up as you walked into the door?

It really only takes a few minutes to walk the house and clear away any clothes that are laying around where they don't belong. Clean clothes should not live on the couch or your bed, so be sure to hang them up or fold them with the matching sets. Dirty clothes are even easier to hide as they are usually getting tossed into the hamper.

2) Put All Your Shoes in a Neat Place

Did you walk into the house and toss your shoes off, only to leave them sitting all lonely in the doorway? One of the easiest ways to clear up your home is to take the extra step (haha, get it) to put away your shoes with the rest of them. Sometimes we are so glad to finally be home that we forget to put them away.

It might even help to purchase a shoe rack to help stay organized. You could also install hangers, coat racks, or shelves to keep everything nice and neat.

3) Clean and Clear Off Your Kitchen Counters

a clean kitchen counter

Was today your meal-prep day? Did someone visit and leave a mess on your counters? Oftentimes, simply throwing out containers or other random items left on the counters can clean up the look of the entire home. Many would argue that the kitchen is the heart of a home, therefore it would certainly make a lasting impact on the rest of your house.

After clearing off the counters, it would be even better to wipe them down. Leaving old food and other stuff laying on the countertops can not only damage them over time, but also cause foul smelling odors to accumulate, which could lead to pests and a whole slew of other household problems.

4) Wash All of the Dishes Every Night

Did you really think the dishes were going to be skipped? While 1 out of 5 Americans still wash dishes by hand, the rest of us are using the dishwasher. It's one of the least favorite tasks of everyday life, but it certainly goes a long way to clear out the sink every night.

Bacteria love damp, warm, and nutrient rich environments. Guess where the perfect breeding grounds are for most types of bacteria found in almost every home? You guessed it! The kitchen sink. In fact, your kitchen sponge may be the perfect place for bacteria to thrive. It's good practice to not only keep the sink clean, but to also throw away smelly sponges periodically. After all, they are pretty cheap to replace.

5) Put Away Items That You Won't Be Using For a While

Oftentimes we get home and throw out stuff down and maybe even bring something home with us. Maybe it was a package delivery with several items inside a box, mail, or things we bought at a store. Everything that goes into your house should have a reasonable home.

It's really easy to leave things out after using them and even easier to put something down and hope we get to it later. Sometimes just taking a few extra seconds to put the scissors back, throw out junk mail, or return the magazine we were reading back to where it belongs. If it's rendered useless, make sure to throw it away in the trash.
